Technology Leadership CIO50 Middle East 2020: Introducing the 50 most influential tech leaders in the Middle East
A record-breaking pool was narrowed down to 50 senior technology executives who were recognized for their innovation, resilience, and influence on rapid change.
IO Middle East is proud of introducing the first CIO50 Middle East awards. These awards recognise the 50 top technology executives who are driving innovation, strengthening resilience, and influencing rapid changes in the region.
The CIO50 Middle East Awards reflect IDG’s growing commitment to the region and are viewed as a mark for excellence within the enterprise.
The CIO50 Middle East Awards were judged on three core pillars — leadership, innovation, and resilience — and honour transformative, inspiring and enduring CIOs at both the regional and in-country levels in the Middle East.
In a record year, we received more than 80 submissions, including from Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain. The celebration ceremony, attended by more than 400 technology executives across the region, saw the winners unveiled.
Technology leadership in numbers, words
The CIO50 Middle East award winners collectively have responsibility for more that 40,000 Middle East IT employees, with an average of more than 500 employees per organisation. The list includes a variety of technology positions such as CIO, CISO and CTO, as well transformation, business and executive roles in five countries: UAE (Saudi Arabia), Qatar, Oman, Oman, Bahrain and Oman.
There were more than 15 industry sectors represented, including financial, healthcare, insurance and banking, real-estate, telecommunications and aviation, government, transport, utilities and trade unions.
Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 technology leaders were resilient and continued to pursue change-agent activities. This was evident through a shift from being mere custodians to entrepreneurs driving new ideas and strategies to the IT department.
The CIO50 Middle East awardees list highlights technology executives who are focused on creating and developing, building first-to market projects capable of defeating the pandemic, and setting up the business for future growth.
